On July 22nd, SCE Environmental Group, Inc. (SCE) participated in a one-day technical workshop in the Bahamas.  The workshop, entitled “A Guide to Understanding UST/AST Assessment & Remediation” included presentations by SCE’s Jody Cordaro.  The seminar was attended by more than 40 government officials, including Phenton Neymour, Bahamian Minister of State, who thanked the team and spoke of their plans to prepare environmental regulations for their Country.  The Bahamas’ emerging national energy policy will mandate secondary containment for petroleum tanks and will also require regulation of system inventories and operations.  Minister Neymour told the audience, “threats are now realities and we must begin regulating to eliminate the threats.”

“It was really exciting to see the workshop so well attended”, said Cordaro.  “We had all regulatory agencies there and major industry.  With our Bahamian presence in the past four years, we feel that we can make a difference in changing the culture of a Country.”

Neymour later met with SCE representatives in a private session to learn more about tank compliance and soil and groundwater regulations and handling.  SCE is also evaluating the permitting and design of a centralized licensed hazardous waste treatment facility to receive contaminated wastes and work towards a Greener Bahamas.
